TRIXIE'S FAREWELL

Trixie, the character that inspired the DASToo! character, 'Trix'; Dog's best friend, was put to sleep at the old age of 15. It was a hard decision to make for Jono's family, but because they loved her so much, it was the kindest thing to do as she was likely to have been suffering a lot of pain from the arthritis she had in her back legs.

Trixie was older than Jono, by several months, so he had known her for all his life. The family knew that the time was coming. Year after year Trixie kept pushing on. Last year it seemed she had a new spring in her step, when Bonnie, a puppy Meremma sheepdog was introduced to the Hooper family. You would see her and Bonnie bounce off down the back, barking away, although her bite was worse than her bark.

Trixie was given the nick-name 'Grandma', for obvious reasons and at 15 she was doing well for her age. Vets said that on the inside Trixie was still a very healthy dog. Darn that arthritis!

Now buried in the backyard, Trixie will always be remembered at home and in the comics, by her cartoon companion, Trix.
